Receipt settings
Everything that shapes a receipt before it is issued lives at Settings → Features → Receipts: this device's printing setup, and the organisation-wide Branding, Footer Note, Custom Lines, Locations, Signatures and Custom Fields.
Receipt Roll Printing
"Remembered on this device, for every user who signs in on it." Nothing here is stored on your account; it belongs to the device, survives sign-out, and applies to whoever signs in next. On iOS and the web the section only says that receipt roll printing is available on Android devices; those devices print the Full Page format through their own print dialog.
- Status line
- A coloured dot and one line saying what the next receipt-roll print will do: green "Ready · Vendor Print Service · IPosPrinterService · 58 mm"; amber when the print dialog will open each time or a pinned route is unavailable; red for "Paper out", "Printer overheated" or "No printer set up on this device". The Set Up Printer button beside it starts the guided flow described below.
- Roll Width
- Detected · 58 mm when the terminal's printer service reports its width (the default), or 58 mm · 32 columns / 80 mm · 48 columns chosen by hand, for an external printer with a different roll. The roll preview on every receipt follows the width in force.
- Route
- Automatic (default) tries Vendor Print Service first, then Bluetooth, then Android Print Service; see Printing and reprinting for what each is. Pin a route to force it; a route not present on this device is greyed out. If a pinned route becomes unavailable the app falls back rather than failing, and says so after printing. Selecting an external printer under Bluetooth Printers pins Bluetooth for you; selecting the terminal's own printer leaves the route alone; Automatic undoes either.
- Test Print
- Prints a short test strip on the route the next receipt would use: a block of squares, your organisation's name in bold, the route, the roll width and the time, and a ruler line as wide as the roll. A ruler that wraps means the wrong width, a missing block means the route drops images, and a plain name means bold is ignored. The message in the bottom-right corner names the route used, or why the print failed. Refresh re-checks the device.
- Printer Details
- Collapsed by default. Everything support asks for: the printer service found, the printer's status, the Bluetooth radio and paired devices, the print services, the settings in force and the last print's outcome. Share Details sends it through the share sheet.
Bluetooth Printers
A section of the Receipt Roll Printing card, right under the route: this device's own printer where it is exposed over Bluetooth, or a paired external printer, for the Bluetooth route. It changes with the state of the radio.
- Allow Bluetooth
- On Android 12 and later the app asks once for permission to use Bluetooth. If it was refused with "don't ask again", the card says so and the permission is granted under the app's permissions in Android settings.
- Turn On Bluetooth
- Shown while Bluetooth is off. Android shows its own confirmation; the app cannot switch the radio on by itself. A selected printer is listed as unavailable until Bluetooth is on.
- This Device
- The terminal's own printer when it is exposed over Bluetooth (for example IposPrinter on a Q2). It is paired by the terminal itself and is pre-selected when nothing else has been chosen, so the whole setup is to have Bluetooth on.
- Paired Printers
- Every other device paired with this one, printers first; a Printer badge marks devices that announce themselves as printers, and nothing is hidden because some printers do not. Use This Printer selects one and the button reads Selected for the one in use. Selecting an external printer pins the Bluetooth route. Refresh re-reads the list; it is also re-read when you return to the app and whenever Bluetooth changes.
- Pair a New Printer
- Opens Android's Bluetooth settings, where pairing happens (the PIN is usually 0000 or 1234). The printer appears under Paired Printers when you come back. There is no pairing inside the app.
- Test Print via Bluetooth
- Prints the test strip on the selected printer, whatever route is pinned, so a pairing can be checked without changing anything.
- Clear Selection
- Forgets the selected printer; if Bluetooth was pinned, the route returns to Automatic. The card also offers it when the selected printer is no longer paired.
Set Up Printer
A guided walk through the same settings, started from the status line or from the receipt screen when no printer is set up. It writes nothing you cannot see and change on this page afterwards.
- Checking this device: each route is shown as Found or Not Found, with the printer service or printer it found. If Bluetooth is off or no printer is selected, the Bluetooth controls are offered right there.
- Test strip: one route at a time, in the order Automatic uses. Print Test Strip, then answer Did it print correctly? The app cannot always tell: a printer can print nonsense without reporting an error, and the print dialog never reports back. No, Try Another Way moves to the next route; on a terminal whose printer service offers two ways of sending data, the alternate one is tried first. A route that fails outright shows the message and offers Try Again or Try Another Way.
- Done: the route that printed correctly is kept. If it was the first route Automatic would reach, the setting stays Automatic; if it was confirmed after a higher route failed, it is pinned so the next receipt does not go back to the failing one. If no route printed, the flow says so, offers Printer Details for support, and Share Receipt still works from every receipt.
Branding
"What prints at the top of every receipt — for the whole organisation."
- Receipt header
- Label (default) or Logo. Logo is disabled until one has been uploaded.
- Label Text
- Up to 80 characters. Leave it empty to print the organisation's name. Press Save Label.
- Logo
- PNG or JPEG up to 1 MB. Upload Logo, Replace Logo, Remove Logo. The server prepares the image once for both roll widths, converting it to pure black-and-white dots at up to 60% of the paper width, so simple, high-contrast artwork prints best and transparent areas print as paper. The first upload switches the header to Logo automatically; removing the logo switches it back to Label. The full-page format prints the original image in colour.
Branding is presentation: a reprint uses the current branding, and the DUPLICATE stamp is what marks it as a copy. There is no header tagline, address or TIN setting in this release; the location block supplies the address. The line at the bottom has its own section, Footer Note.
Footer Note
"The note printed at the very bottom of every receipt."
- Show Footer Note
- On by default. When on, the New Receipt screen shows the Footer Note card. When off, the card is hidden and new receipts print without a footer line; a note sent by a device that has not refreshed its settings is refused online, and a receipt issued offline before the switch is accepted without its note and flagged under Accepted With Notes.
- Default Footer Note
- Up to 200 characters, for example "Thank you for your business!". The field takes several lines: press Enter to start a new one, and every line break prints as typed on both the full page and the thermal slip. It fills the Footer Note field on every new receipt. Press Save Default; clear the text and save to have no default. The field is disabled while Show Footer Note is off.
- Allow Changing the Default
- On by default and only available once a default is saved. On: the cashier may change or clear the pre-filled text for a receipt. Off: the default is fixed, the Footer Note field on the New Receipt screen is read-only, and every receipt prints the default exactly; the server replaces anything else. Clearing the default switches this back on.
Like every other receipt setting, the footer note is snapshotted onto each receipt as it is issued: changing the default or switching the field off never alters an existing receipt.
Custom Lines
"Lines typed by hand on a receipt, with no product behind them."
- Allow Custom Lines
- On by default. When on, the Items card on the New Receipt screen starts with a blank custom line and offers Add Custom Line. When off, the button is hidden, the card starts empty and every line must come from the product search; a product search with no match just says "No matches." A custom line sent by a device that has not refreshed its settings is refused online, and a receipt issued offline before the switch keeps its custom lines as printed and is flagged under Accepted With Notes.
The switch needs the Products module: without it a custom line is the only kind of line a receipt can carry, so the section says the lines stay on and the switch is disabled. Receipts already issued keep their custom lines whatever the setting.
Locations
"Whether a receipt records the location it was issued at."
- Enable Location Selection
- Off by default. When on, the New Receipt screen shows a Location card offering the issuing person's assigned locations (every active one for the owner), auto-selects a lone option, and prints the chosen location's name and address under the header.
- Require Location Selection
- Off by default and only available once selection is enabled. When on, a receipt cannot be issued without a location, and a person assigned to no location cannot issue at all. Turning selection off turns the requirement off too.
See Locations for defining sites and Users for assigning people to them.
Signatures
"Captured on the device when a receipt is issued and printed under the totals." Two signatures, each Off (default), Optional or Required:
- Issuer's Signature
- The signed-in person signs the receipt they issue. Their name prints beside it.
- Customer's Signature
- The customer signs on the device. The customer's name on the receipt prints beside it.
Required blocks Issue Receipt until the signature is drawn; Optional offers the pad but allows skipping. The server enforces the same rule for online receipts, and refuses a signature that is sent while the setting is Off. Signatures are stored as strokes and print on both formats.
Custom Fields
"Extra label/value pairs printed on every receipt: under the customer on the roll, below the totals on the full page. Required fields must be filled in before a receipt can be issued." Typical uses: vehicle number, purchase order number, delivery note. The values are searchable from the Receipts list, so a purchase order number finds its receipt.
Adding or editing a field
Press Add Field (or Edit on a field):
- Label
- 1 to 80 characters, unique within the organisation. A label that was used by a deleted field cannot be reused.
- Type
- Text (default), Number, Date or Yes / No. The type decides the input on the New Receipt screen and how the value is checked.
- Requirement
- Optional (default) or Required.
- Help Text
- Up to 200 characters, shown under the input as a hint.
Hide, show and delete
- Hide stops offering the field on new receipts without deleting it (a Hidden badge appears); Show brings it back.
- Delete asks "Delete “Label”?" and reminds you that receipts already issued keep the field and its value; only new receipts stop offering it.
- Fields print in the order they were created. There is no reorder control in this release.
