Products overview

The Products module is your price list: what you sell, in which unit, at what price — or at a price typed on each receipt. Receipts pick from it, inventory tracks it, and reports summarise it.

What a product holds

A name and an optional SKU (a unique code).
How it is priced on receipts: per unit (a fixed price, quantity typed on the receipt), at a custom price (the amount typed on each receipt), or both, with a default for new receipt lines.
For a product that can be sold at a custom price, whether to work out units from the amount: the receipt then also records how many units the amount bought at the price per unit, to three decimals (5,000 at 1,100 a gallon is 4.545 gal).
For a product that can be sold per unit, a quantity rule: Whole Quantity (the default, whole numbers only) or Fractional Quantity with a precision of 1, 2 or 3 decimal places, which decides what may be typed as the quantity when it is sold (2.5 gal needs Fractional with at least one decimal).
A unit it is sold by, unless it is priced at a custom price only and does not work units out from the amount. Thirteen are offered as you type (Unit, Kilogram, Gram, Litre, Millilitre, Gallon, Metre, Foot, Hour, Day, Box, Pack, Case), and any other unit can be typed in and is printed as typed.
A price per unit in the organisation's currency, unless it is priced at a custom price only and does not work units out from the amount. Zero is allowed, except as the rate units are worked out at.
An optional description.
An Active or Inactive state. Inactive products keep their history (receipts already issued) but cannot be added to new ones.
Optionally, location overrides: at any of your locations the pricing, default, units from amount, quantity rule, unit, price or availability can differ from the values above, which are the organisation-wide ("global") ones. Anything a location does not override falls back to the global value. See Locations.

The screens

Screen	What it is for
Products (list)	Alphabetical list, 25 to a page, with a keyword search over name, SKU, description and unit.
New Product	The form: Details, Pricing, Unit & Price, Availability, and optional Locations overrides saved with the product.
Product detail	The same form for editors (or a read-only card), the Locations card (overrides per location, and stock per place when Inventory is licensed), and Delete and Save Changes in the action bar.

Permissions in this module

Permission	Allows
`Products.View`	Open the list and any product.
`Products.View.Own`	Open the list and only the products this person created.
`Products.Create`	The New Product button.
`Products.Edit` / `Products.Edit.Own`	Save Changes, including switching Active and Inactive.
`Products.Delete` / `Products.Delete.Own`	The Delete button.

Picking products on a receipt needs only Receipts.Create. The Inventory card on a product page needs the Inventory module and Inventory.View; see Inventory.
