Customers overview
The Customers module keeps a list of the people and organisations you sell to, so they can be attached to receipts and reported on.
What a customer record holds
- A type: Individual (a person) or Entity (a business or organisation).
- A name, which is the customer in both cases: the person's full name or the organisation's name. There is no separate company field.
- Email, phone and TIN (tax identification number), all optional.
- For an entity, a contact: first name, last name, email and phone of the person to speak to. It is for reference only and never becomes an account.
- An address, one line per row, and internal notes that are never printed.
Customers have no active/inactive state. The only lifecycle action is delete, which hides the record but leaves every receipt that names them unchanged.
The screens
| Screen | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Customers (list) | Alphabetical list, 25 to a page, with a keyword search over name, email, phone, TIN, address, notes and the contact person. |
| New Customer | The form: Type, Details, Contact (entities), Address, Notes. |
| Customer detail | The same form pre-filled for editors, or a read-only card for viewers, with Delete and Save Changes in the action bar. |
All three are described in Managing customers.
Permissions in this module
| Permission | Allows |
|---|---|
Customers.View | Open the list and any customer. |
Customers.View.Own | Open the list and only the customers this person created. |
Customers.Create | The New Customer button, and the "Create as New Customer" checkbox on a receipt. |
Customers.Edit / Customers.Edit.Own | Save Changes to any customer, or only to those this person created. |
Customers.Delete / Customers.Delete.Own | The Delete button, for any customer or only their own. |
Searching customers from the New Receipt screen needs only Receipts.Create. Running the two customer reports needs Reports.View plus the plain Customers.View.
Where customers appear elsewhere
